30 Days of Night: Dark Days (2010)

Based on the popular comic book miniseries, this harrowing thriller follows Stella (Kiele Sanchez) after her ordeal in Barrow, Alaska, at the hands of rapacious vampires. Grieving for her dead husband, Stella craves revenge. With the aid of some eccentric vampire hunters, Stella travels to Los Angeles to stalk Lilith (Mia Kirshner), the dangerous queen vampire responsible for the attack on Barrow. Ben Ketai directs this sequel to 30 Days of Night.
Let me start off by saying that I really enjoyed the first installment (30 Days of Night). Because I liked the first one so much, I was really hoping that this would be at least on par. Sadly, it is definitely a straight to DVD quality film. It's watchable but not nearly as enjoyable as the first in the series. The story seems to have to many pauses for no reason and you just never really seem to care about any of the characters. I'm not saying not to watch it. I mean I gave it three stars. Just dont go in expecting it to be as good as the first one.

It had some good parts, but unfortunately it falls into the same type category as movies sequels that use all new people or a different main character. Although in dramatic arc you want a character to be driven to change by the events of a movie, these kind of mishaps leave us wondering is the character trying to be like the previous movie, but failing miserably or is the actor just not getting the character. Beyond that, it moved a little slow as if there were 5 minutes of plot and more than an hour to fill in. It was so subpar to the original. As I said some aspects were good, but well, it lost steam overall.
